In 2000, Captain Thomas retired and became the Principal of the Elmore County Technical Center. Colonel Kay became the WHS Senior Army Instructor in 2000. In 2004, Colonel Kay passed away over the Christmas break. After Colonel Kay's untimely death, Lieutenant Colonel Ted Calhoun became the new Senior Army Instructor (SAI) for Wetumpka, a position he held until 2013. SFC Hunter became the SAI for the Indian Battalion. From 2004 through 2008, Wetumpka reached its prime winning hundreds of drill competitions over the U.S. Under the leadership of Sgt.
