To Motivate Young People To Become Better Citizens
Wetumpka JROTC
We are The Wetumpka High School Indian Battalion. The Indian Battalion was established in 1994 under the leadership of CPT Carl Thomas, MSG Tyrone White, and SFC Danny Hunter. In 2000, CPT Thomas retired and became Principal of the Elmore County Technical Center. COL Kay became the WHS Senior Army Instructor (SAI) in 2000. In 2004, COL Kay passed away over the Christmas break. After COL Kay's untimely death, LTC Ted Calhoun became the new SAI for Wetumpka High School, a position he held until 2013. SFC Hunter became the SAI, and from 2004 through 2008 Wetumpka, reached its prime by winning hundreds of drill competitions throughout the United States. Under the leadership of SFC Hunter, the Drill Team and Color Guard excelled, especially through developing new routines and marching styles. SFC Hunter became SAI again in 2013, a position he still holds. MAJ Joey Hutto joined Wetumpka High School in 2015, and together, he and SFC Hunter demand continual improvement from the JROTC cadets at Wetumpka High School.
