DECA Comp Team

DECA is a Marketing student organization.  WHS DECA is a fun way to help students develop skills for business careers, build self-esteem, and experience leadership opportunities.  Our local DECA chapter is state & nationally affiliated and has participated in numerous leadership opportunities & competitions at both levels. Monthly DECA meetings will be held during Indian Period on the second Thursday of the month during 4th lunch wave & are announced via Parent Square, Instagram, & Facebook. National DECA month is November.

Membership: Fees are $40 & due by September 30th each year. You can pay Mrs. Vittore in E1 via cash or check, card to Mrs. Andrews in the Bookkeeper's office or MySchoolBucks. This cost includes Local, State, & National Membership, as well as, the 2026 DECA t-shirt!

DECA Points: Each school year DECA Members have a goal of 30 DECA points to obtain. 

  • Dress up days are each worth 1 point
  • DECA Community Service opportunities are worth 1-5 points
  • Outside community service may also be counted towards your total ONLY if they are preauthorized by Mrs. Vittore. These are capped at 12 points. 
  • DECA does not count hours but rather acts of service.
  • A minimum of 5 points must be obtained by participation in DECA events, including meetings.

Officers & Potential Officers: To run for office you must obtain 30 DECA points via the above standards, be a current member in good standing, & cannot have ECAP or multiple issues of ISS in the year you run for office.

Offices: President, 1 VP of Marketing, 1 VP of Finance & Fundraising, & 1 VP of Hospitality & Member Engagement, 2 VPs of Leadership, & 2 VPs of Career Development & Competition

Awards:

  • DECA Graduation Cords - 30 points obtained Senior year
  • White Diamond Graduation Cord - 30 points obtained Junior & Senior years   
  • Blue Diamond Graduation Cord - 30 points obtained Sophomore, Junior & Senior years                  
  • White DECA Graduation Stole - 30 points obtained Freshman, Sophomore, Junior & Senior years        
  • Blue DECA Graduation Stole - hold a Vice-President role & 30 points obtained Senior year 
  • Gold DECA Graduation Stole - hold President role & 30 points obtained Senior year
  • Emerging Leadership Honor Award - demonstrate exemplary attributes as an academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leader
  • National Technical Honor Society - Must have taken 3 courses & passed in either the Business Admin or Business Marketing ladder
  • Marketing Student of the Year - Must have a minimum of 2 Marketing Courses & be a member in good standing

Field Trips:

  • ACE Conference (Officers Only) September 9th in Montgomery
  • Launch - September @ Troy University (open to any member wishing to compete at state)
  • County DECA Competition - October (lab students required)
  • Sports & Entertainment Conference - January in Orlando, FL
  • State DECA Competition (SCDC) - February in Atlanta, GA (open to officers & any members wishing to compete) 
  • College Marketing Field Trips TBA - Feb/March (open to all members)
  • International DECA Competition (ICDC) - April (qualifying members only)
